AbleGet can search for files or for alternate locations for downloading files. It gives possibility to choose fastest server and download the file you want. AbleGet makes it automatically.
Minimal number of search results - specifies how many results are required. If there are less results searching is continued.
Use FTP search servers (in this order) - AbleGet can search with servers that can find a file with a given name. Engines are used in the order they are placed on the list. To change this order use drag and drop or blue arrows near the list. You can Add your favourite search servers, Edit their parameters and Delete selected engines.
Use mirror list - many popular download sites has mirrors (copies) all over the world. AbleGet can use servers that are close and usually fast. This is another metod of finding alternate locations.
Edit... - press this button to modify mirror list. You can add or remove mirror servers.
Get URLs only from countries - you can specify what countries should be taken from the mirror list. Separate country codes with spaces eg. us uk no. Write here only countries that are close because they usually gives the fastest transfer.
Parameters for FtpSearch compatible severs
There are a lot of file search engines (e.g. download.lycos.com) based on software developed in Norway. They enable powerful file search.
Search in domain - search results will be only from servers in specified domain. For example people from England may enter "uk" here, becuse usually servers from their country are faster. However sometimes searched file may not be present in that domain.
Search on path - if you e.g. want to find only Linux RedHat files you can enter here "redhat". Only files from directory containing "redhat" will be shown.
Try exact hits first - this option is only maeningful in some types of search. For example when you search for "ableget" with "Case insensitive substring search" all files and directories EXACTLY named "ableget" will be returned first.
Use maximal hits per match - if you are not sure what is searched file name, you can set this value e.g. to one. Then each matching, unique file name will be returned only once.
Sort results by... - you can set how the search engine sorts output results.
