Managing tasks
[Previous] [Main] [Next]

There are four pages: Running, Finished, Local and Favorites located on the main program window. All tasks are started on the Running tab. AbleGet can download files, upload, search for files and search for MP3.

To create a new task choose on the running page from menu Running - New or press new.bmp button on the toolbar. A dialog will appear, where you should select task type and some properties. After that you will see this new task on the list on the Running page.

You can also start a new task by dragging an URL from your browser to the Running page.

When you select from the menu Tools - Monitor clipboard, the clipboard is watched and when it contains a link to a file, AbleGet will automatically show a new task dialog.

AbleGet ofers browser integration. You can also select Tools - Monitor browser to enable watching clicks in your browser (Netscape 4.xx or Internet Explorer 5.01 or later). When you click on a link to a file, AbleGet will take over the download. When you hold down Alt key while clicking on a link, AbleGet will not disturb your browser.
You can also select what types of files should be monitored (e.g. *.zip, *.mp3).

To start some tasks select them and then choose Running - Run (Ctrl-R) or press play.bmp button. You can watch the progress of the task on Info panel. To show it press info.bmp button (Ctrl-I). When you want to stop tasks - select them on the list and press stopplay.bmp.

AbleGet can resume broken connections, so when you download or upload a file you do not have to wait until it ends. Also when an error occurs, the file is not downloaded again from the beginning - only the rest of the file is transferred. Unfortunately some servers does not support resuming.

You can schedule starting tasks or specify maximal working time and enable automatic dialing with your modem to an ISP. AbleGet can also play sounds (e.g. when a task is finished) and turn off your computer when all is done.

When a task is completly finished it is automatically moved to the Finished page. You can also see where a file is downloaded by pressing gotohdd.bmp button (Go to disk location). On the Local page you will see the file or a folder for a search task. When you search for a file or for MP3, or when you want to search for alternate locations for a downloaded file, pages from search engines are saved on the disk in folders, so you can view them when you wish. Local page can be also used as an simple file manager.

A task from Running or from Finished page can be remembered on the Favorites page. You can add tasks to Favorites, pressing heart.bmp button (Add to favorites). They are organized in groups on the Favorites page. To create a new group press newfolder.bmp button.
